When looking for things to do in Phoenix, Arizona, consider visiting the popular, privately-owned Phoenix Zoo. Opened in 1962, the Phoenix Zoo has more than 3,000 species and is the largest zoo in the world. For those who don’t have much time, the zoo has various food options available at various snack bars and cafes. While half of them are open year-round, some close during summer. Several cafes and snack bars at the Phoenix Zoo are kid-friendly, but there are also plenty of other options for adults. The Savanna Grill offers burgers, hot dogs, pizza, salads, and pizza, among other options. Glass and alcohol are not permitted on the zoo’s trails. Located in Tempe, the Phoenix Zoo offers four themed areas. Each trail features a different species and is divided into a theme. There’s a Desert Lives Trail, where you’ll see native Big Horn Sheep and Arabian Oryx, and an area called Forest of Uco, which features a mock South American Mercado. It also has an exhibit dedicated to tropical animals, including the Spectacled Bear.
