History

Scottsdale was originally settled and farmed by the Hohokam indigenous tribe.  The Hohokam lived here till about 1450 and built an amazing network of irrigation canals. These canals covered over 250 miles and some even remain and are used today. Even today, some descendants of the Hohokam, known as the Pima people, still live in Scottsdale.  Many live in the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community but live in modern homes rather than traditional dwellings.
