Elsie McCarthy Sensory Garden

Just as its name says, the Elsie McCarthy Sensory Garden at 7637 N. 55th Ave. in Glendale, was designed to awaken your senses.  In the evenings, lights create beautiful scenes.  Plants and trees planted there were chosen because of their texture and their scent.  Water features also awaken sound, touch, and sight. Foothills Recreation & Aquatics Center

Located, of course, in the foothills at 5600 W. Union Hills Drive, the Foothills Recreation & Aquatics Center offers hundreds of outdoor activities and water sports for visitors.  There are pools for recreation in addition to lap pools.  The center offers educational outdoor activities along with recreational activities. Many of the activities and programs are free to everyone.

Hiking

Glendale offers miles of hiking opportunities. At Thunderbird Conservation Park you will find over 20 miles of trails open for all uses.  As a desert conservation park, expect to see all sorts of desert wildlife and plants.  

At Bridle Path, you will find 9 miles of trails made of decomposed granite.  This trail is reserved for horseback riding.
